Intertidal Surveys

The Eco Marine team of qualified marine biologists are specialists in intertidal surveying. We are experienced in undertaking both Phase I (walkover) and Phase II (quadrat and core sampling) habitat surveys across a wide variety of coastline environments to provide baseline data for monitoring change and identifying potentially sensitive locations.

From sea caves to sandy foreshores, as coastal ecology experts our team can accurately classify and determine the status of complex coastal habitats and fauna. All our field staff are taxonomically trained ensuring the accurate identification of any ecological features.

We have undertaken intertidal surveys focusing on environments including:

  • Sea caves
  • Saltmarsh
  • Rocky shores
  • Mudflats
  • Estuarine complexes
  • Sand dominated beaches
  • Managed realignment sites
  • Seagrass beds

Following the completion of intertidal surveys, Eco Marine can provide biological data as thematic GIS maps, site reports and bespoke databases for species and features of interest. Biotope data can also be subject to rigorous statistical analyses to determine the ecological condition of the site.

All of our field staff are fully trained in advanced health and safety procedures, possess ENG1 Seafarers medical certification and have undergone Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) approved STCW95 sea survival training.
