One of the Eco Marine senior team members, Ellie Maher, recently attended the British Phycological Society’s seaweed identification course at the Marine Biological Association, Plymouth. The course which was run by national experts Francis Bunker, Christine Maggs and Anne Bunker focused on improving seaweed identification both in the field and in lab settings. There were opportunities to gain further knowledge about algal classification and reproduction as well as learning about invasive species to aid intertidal assessments across a range of habitats. The seaweed course was thorough and represented an excellent opportunity to get to know more about this often-underappreciated ecological (and commercial!) resource.
